Chantal Perreault was born on March 20th, 1959, at L’Assomption, in the region of Lanaudière. At adolescence she discovered her interest for painting, having had the chance to see her mother Raymonde Perreault paint, and initiating herself to this art between 13 and 17 years of age. She had to interrupt this passion in order to follow her law studies, practice as a lawer, and establish her family. But the internal pressures of her creative and expressive needs returned and as a result she decided to devote herself more seriously by following classes at the Silvia Araya Academy since 1999. Thanks to Juan Cristobal, director and teacher at the school now known as Academie Cristobal, she explores the shadows and light, composition and structure, tonal and chromatic compositions, vanishing lines and many other concepts through the media of oil, acrylic, ink, watercolours and pastels. She also followed courses with Irena Korosec of the Bohemiarte Galery in Old Montreal in order to perfect her knowledge and technique for human subjects. Numerous ateliers with, amongs others, Viviane Martin Roman, Eddy Dion, Humberto Pinochet, Sylvia Araya, Max Stiebel, Pamela Carter, Denis Jacques and Juan Cristobal provided her with solid academic and technical bases as well as allowing her the opportunity to experience the passion of these artists. She has participated in numerous collective expositions and is a member of the Société de pastel de l’est du Canada (PSEC) and of the Association des artistes peintres associés de la Rive-Sud (AAPARS). Her diversified works of lanscapes, animal scenes, figures, portraits and still lives have permitted her to better understand what she desires to express. Life has become her subject of predilection since she loves to tell stories and to make others vibrate and feel atmospheres.
